Who We Are
LCLAA is the top organization for Latino workers and their families. It was founded in 1972 to educate, organize, and mobilize Latinos in the labor movement. LCLAA now represents over 2 million Latino workers in major labor organizations.
Our Roots
In the 1950s, Latino activists joined the civil rights movement, fighting for better opportunities in trade unions. They believed in achieving social dignity, economic equality, and political access for Latino working families, aligning with the “American Dream.” In 1972, the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) was founded, gathering trade unionists from the US and Puerto Rico to turn this vision into reality. LCLAA aimed to empower Latinos in unions and educate workers about the importance of fair and safe workplaces.
